Avs suffering through miserable season
By Bud L. Ellis
It was not too long ago the Colorado Avalanche were the main part of the conversation when discussion turned to the powers of the Western Conference.
That’s not the case anymore. Colorado is suffering through a miserable season, and will miss the Stanley Cup playoffs for the third time in five seasons.
The Avs have endured a March that’s been indicative of their rough showing in 2010-11. Colorado is just 1-8-1 in the month, and for the season have only 62 points, six points ahead of Edmonton for last place in the Western Conference.
The Avs won their first game of the month on Saturday, and naturally it was against the equally struggling Oilers. Colorado needed a shootout to put away Edmonton 3-2. The victory ended a 10-game losing streak that dated back to a 4-3 victory at St. Louis on Feb. 22.
Colorado looks to finish the season on an upswing starting Tuesday night at home against Columbus.
